evaluate company internal

The role that an internal communication plan plays in an organization is more than evident. It essentially helps engage and retain employees, contributes to the smooth running of the company, and enriches corporate culture. These are just a few of its benefits. However, we must consider that it is necessary to ensure that the actions implemented are effective. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate a company’s internal communication.

You can carry out such evaluation in various ways. One of the most relevant benefits offered by digital transformation is the implementation of specialized software programs. For example, Sesame, a human resources software, allows you to greatly optimize business internal communication. It allows you to use various tools which you can contribute to your communication plan. Next, we will explain how you can evaluate a company’s internal communication.

The essential channel for conveying information

Information and knowledge management is key to success; it’s worth noting that communication is the most human facet of this management. Everyone, nowadays, should be aware that technology has revolutionized the way people communicate with each other. This applies both at the corporate and personal level. However, meetings remain an essential channel for planning, executing or reviewing work done.

Efficient management of these meetings is crucial for data to be channeled properly. While ensuring that teamwork is a matter of real synergy. Therefore, efficient companies identify and distinguish different types of meetings, defining a purpose, a frequency and its members.

This definition is relevant, but adhering to it is even more critical. And, above all, that meetings have an agenda, a specific and limited time, and a record of decisions made. Just as there are things pending for future meetings.

What approach to adopt to measure the results of internal communication?

We must bear in mind that results mean prior objectives. Effective communication requires adequate order.

  • Set objectives.
  • Define the necessary means to reach these objectives (messages, frequencies, channels).
  • Evaluate and study the results.

You might wonder why? Well, in-depth analysis allows us to adjust the goals and determine the areas of improvement of the means that were applied.

Making a balance of the situation

Once you have defined the objectives and actions, you should make a situation balance. Next, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What can I measure?
  • What actions should I measure?
  • Why should I measure them?
  • What information is accessible? And what type of information requires internal research?

Global indicators we must know

Lastly, do not lose sight of the general indicators of the organization that show its development:

  • Absenteeism rate.
  • Turnover. If it’s very high, it’s usually indicative of difficulties in generating commitment and a sense of belonging from employees.
  • Customer satisfaction.
  • The results obtained in the company.

All these indicators are the result of many different factors, but they are strong signs of the involvement of the employees in the organization. Involvement in which internal communication plays a crucial role.

Evaluating internal communication from a quantitative perspective

It’s important to make use of all the encrypted data at your disposal. This, depending on the communication channels used:

  • Intranet. If you have an intranet, analyze the statistics in detail to understand what the most searched and read topics are.
  • The newsletter. Opening rate, subscriptions, click reactivity rate, amount of clicked content, etcetera. There is essential information to understand whether the bulk of news attracts or not and what the topics that attract the most attention from employees are.
  • The internal communication tool. This is an essential point for the evaluation of internal communication. Programs like Sesame, will allow you to have various communication channels for your collaborators. Basically, it offers a very wide range of options that will help you to greatly understand how your communication is perceived.
  • The company website or blog. Unique visitors, number of visits, time spent, pages viewed, etc.
  • As with any other statistic, all this information should also be understood in terms of its evolution over time. This way, you can find a possible lack of interest from your workers. Or, on the other hand, an increase in the achievement of your goals. For this, the mediation can be carried out weekly, monthly, or annually. This is an essential point to evaluate the internal communication of any company.
